How do I care for my SHINE?

We want your SHINE to SHINE forever! Here are a few tips to care for your jewelry: Apply all makeup, hairspray and lotions before wearing your piece, and remember to remove all jewelry before showering, swimming, and exercising. Always keep clean and dry when not in use. When storing your SHINE, you can wrap it in a soft cloth and place in a jewelry box or other sealed container to keep it from oxidizing.

Jewelry tarnish is the result of a natural chemical reaction between the jewelry and the surrounding environment where the jewelry becomes darkened or discolored. Humidity and individual body chemistry can contribute to the speed and severity of tarnishing. Once jewelry becomes tarnished, cleaners and polishing cloths can be used to brighten and restore jewelry.

To clean sterling silver or 14k gold filled: use our favorite sunSHINE cloth {grab one here}. You can also use a mild jewelry cleaner or soap and water, then rinse.

To clean gold or silver dipped: rinse with clean water and pat dry; do no scrub or use chemical cleaners.

To clean brass: this may sounds crazy, but we have found that rubbing brass with lemon juice {or ketchup} and water, then rinsing, will clean it right up! Please note that oxidation is a beautiful part of brass' natural process and should be expected.

What is your return/exchange policy?

It is important to us that you love your SHINE! Rest assured that we always guarantee that our pieces will be free of major scratches, spots and other major defects. We cannot, however, warrant minor variations of size, shape or color because many of our pieces are handmade and some variations from the sample photos should be expected {it's considered character, not flaw}.

Non-Personalized Items: If your SHINE is not quite what you expected, we are happy to return it for a different item, or issue a full refund within 30 days of the ship date. Your return must be in its original condition and undamaged. If an error occurs on our end, we will of course remake the piece free of charge or issue a refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error {you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.}. If you would like to exchange necklace chain lengths, clothing size, or make other preference-based changes to non-personalized, non-defective pieces, there is a $5 exchange fee plus shipping charges. This cost will be invoiced to you, and a return label will be emailed. To return an item, simply login to your account, view the order using the 'Complete Orders' link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button, or contact us for assistance. 

Personalized Items: We want your order to be made just the way you want it! We understand that everyone makes mistakes (including us!), therefore, please review your personalization information and spelling carefully before submitting your order. Please contact us before placing your order if you have questions about personalization, as we are not able to accept cancellations or changes to orders once production has been initiated. Personalized items cannot be accepted for return or exchange, unless there is a manufacturing error or product defect. We will pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.). 

For returns, you should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes for us to process your return upon receipt (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days). We will notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.

We are currently set up to communicate via email / online only at the moment – a policy that we have in place to protect our customers. Keeping all order communication and details in writing reduces the possibility of miscommunication and mistakes ~ not to mention the loud environment would get on the nerves of customers. All of us at SHINElife are mamas and dads that work around our kiddo’s lives – sometimes in the midst of their Dora the Explorer living room dance parties and homework torture {ahem, assignments} – and so telephone customer support is not a good idea. We consider it a blessing that life is loud!

Help! My kiddo used my necklace as a lasso for his Legos and it broke!

How long will it take to receive my order?

Our SHINE is made to order specifically for you! Depending on the item(s) in your order, production time will vary from 1-2 days {some Quick Ship items} to an average of 2 weeks for other made-to-order designs. Calculated during checkout are our current estimated delivery window(s) available for the item(s) in your cart. Please know that we always do our best to create as quickly as possible, while also providing you with the highest quality pieces and the most heartfelt attention. During the busy seasons (Christmas, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day) production times can increase up to six weeks. Please reference the delivery estimates provided in your cart, or check “My Account” for a status on your existing order. Never hesitate to shoot us a message if you need any further clarification on order status.

What is your shipping policy?

Our SHINE is made to order specifically for you! Depending on the item(s) in your order, production time will vary. At the top of each product description, an estimated "your SHINE will ship between" date range is noted for your reference. Need it sooner? No problem: RUSH upgrades ARE available for most designs, and can be selected at checkout. RUSH, as well as other shipping speeds, will be provided at checkout based on your shipping address. Please know that we always do our best to create as quickly as possible, while also providing you with the highest quality pieces and the most heartfelt attention.

We know that you would like to have your order ASAP (we love your excitement to start shinin’), and typically the postal system does deliver to our customers with speed and a smile. Please note, though, in rare cases, odd acts of nature, or other unforeseen events may cause delays in estimated postal service delivery times. Unfortunately, until we employ our own SHINE-specific postal force {wearing rhinestone uniforms, of course – y’all keep ordering goodies and maybe this will happen some day}, we cannot be held responsible for any postal carrier delays or lost packages. We will, however, always fulfill our promise to you, in seeing that you will ultimately end up shining. We LOVE sending SHINE to all ends of the earth, but for international orders, please note that you, as the buyer, are responsible for taxes and fees and customs charges for purchasing items from SHINE headquarters in the United States. Note that there are restrictions on some products, and some products cannot be shipped to international destinations. Please also note that the shipping rates for many items are weight-based. The weight of any such item can be found on its detail page. To reflect the policies of the shipping companies that we use, all weights will be rounded up to the next full pound.

I need my order fast, can I rush my order?

Need your SHINE stat? No problem! Just select one of our Expedited or Rush options at checkout and we’ll ship your order at the fastest speed available. {Estimated delivery times available vary based on item(s) ordered and current production volume, and are calculated and displayed for your choosing at checkout.}

Can I see a proof of my piece?

Our personalized items are engraved or stamped or otherwise made to order, so proofs of those pieces are not possible {once it is engraved into metal, we can’t change it}. Our product photos, however, are a great way to see the style and quality of the piece you should expect!

Can I personalize my jewelry in other languages?

For most of our items, YES! Just write the text exactly as it needs to appear and we’ll customize to the unique language of choice.

Can I gift wrap my piece?

We take pride in packaging each of our orders in a lovely gift box or bag. Due to the amount of orders that are purchased as gifts, we do not currently include invoices or packing slips with any purchase. Need a gift note? No problem! Just mention the note details in the Order Notes section at checkout.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we ship everywhere! SHINElife is worldwide y’all! Postage will be calculated at checkout. Please note that we are not responsible for delayed international shipping times or any customs fees & taxes that may be charged by your country.

If I have more kids, can I add another charm to my necklace?

For several of our designs, you are able to add additional charms at a later date. Please contact us to assist you in ordering the correct piece.

I'm local, can I just come by your studio and pick it up?

At the moment, we do not offer pickup. We ship all domestic orders via Priority Mail, which typically takes just 1-2 days to arrive to local addresses! We are also working to grow our retailer program so you can easily grab SHINE around town. If you have a favorite shop that needs to carry our SHINE, please let them (or us) know!

Can I combine 2 separate orders and save on shipping?

Due to the volume of orders we are unable to combine separate orders.

What forms of payment do you take?

We accept all major credit cards and also accept payments through PayPal. You do not have to have a PayPal account to process your order.

Why was my credit card charged when I haven't received my order?

Due to the personalized nature of our items, your card will be charged as soon as the order is placed, as payment is required before production.

What are your pieces made of?

The materials for each piece are noted in their product description, but all of our jewelry is made of quality materials such as sterling silver, stainless steel, 14K gold-filled, 24k gold plated, swarovski birthstone crystals and freshwater pearls.

How do I choose the best size for my bracelet?

Need to know how to determine the size you should order for your soon-to-be-favorite cuff bracelet? This should help: Our cuff bracelet size options {5″, 5.5″, etc} are determined by measuring the inside circumference of the metal from end to end {this measurement does NOT include the ‘gap’ opening}. The gap opening on our cuff bracelets is typically between 1″ – 1.5″. {Remember, these cuffs are handmade, so there is some variation, which we like to call “character”}! Some cuff bracelets can be slightly adjusted, including our steel bracelets {just need a little muscle for those}. If you currently own a well fitting cuff bracelet, taking a measurement of it from end to end {again, not including the gap} is usually the best reference. If you do not own a cuff bracelet that fits you nicely, read on! Measuring your wrist: A cuff bracelet is designed to be worn just below the wrist bone. Using a flexible tape measure wrap it completely around your wrist in a comfortable, not tight, fashion where the bracelet is to be worn. The reading on the tape should indicate the bracelet size. If you measure straight to the skin, adding 1/4 inch should give you a comfy fit. We say ‘should’ because all wrists are not created equal and some consideration should be taken for large or protruding {or “unique” as we shall call them} wrist bones – remember, the bracelet must pass over the wrist bone. The importance of using a flexible tape measure is that it has some width simulating the bracelet against your skin. If a flexible tape measure is not available, you can cut a piece of paper at least 1/2 inch wide {or the actual width of the bracelet if you know it}. Wrap it around your wrist, mark the strip of paper where the ends meet and then measure it against a ruler. To recap: Using a piece of paper, my wrist measures 6″ around. I should order a size 6″ cuff bracelet. {With a 6″ cuff, the metal will measure 6″ from end to end. The approximate 1″ gap makes the total circumference of the cuff about 7″, which is a nice loose – but not too loose – fit!}. And voila, you can now order you soon-to-be-favorite Shine cuff!

How do I choose the best size for my ring or necklace?

Can I exchange my chain for a different size?

Sure! Please send back the unworn chain to us with a note telling us the size you would like along with a self addressed stamped envelope for us to return the new chain. We will contact you for additional payment if there is a need.

Why the extra fee for Greek letters?

In order for us to personalize items with Greek letters, we are required to charge a royalty fee to reimburse the organizations for the use of their letters.

Can you tell me more about your bath and body line?

Bath & Body Product Commitment: We promise to develop skincare made from only the bare necessities and always utilize naturally occurring ingredients. Our soaps and lotions consist of organic butters and oils, clays and minerals for color, and essential oils for fragrance from the source. We are palm-free! Our items have never and will never contain palm oil. When our ingredients are not able to be purchased locally, we ensure that we find sustainably harvested materials that are packaged as well as transported with the highest degree of environmental conscientiousness. Encouraging young ones to explore natural methods of caring for their body and their skin without chemicals… Beauty regimens that work with everyone’s individual and inherent beauty rather than covering it up with make-up.

The SHINE I purchased last week is now on sale! Do you do price adjustments?

We are happy to offer a price adjustment if the price of the item you purchased drops within 14 days. Just shoot us a message at hello@shopshinelife.com. Please note that we cannot offer price adjustments on special promotions (like site-wide flash sales), including %'s off (e.g., 25%, 40%, and 50% etc.) and $'s off.
