"Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches."In those days, mustard trees grew to be about 8-10 feet tall. And they were planted annually. Every year this tiniest of seeds was covered with dirt and surrounded by darkness, and what did it do? It overcame the odds. It burst forth from the dirt that was piled on top of it, and became so large that it was a source of food, rest, and and shelter for the birds that came to nest in its branches. The branches themselves were about as thick as a man’s forearm. Think about that. Something so tiny - about the size of a modern-day poppy seed - growing into a tree in a single year. Is it hard to imagine something so great emerging from a seed so small? Sure. If you consider the seed alone. But it was never about the size of the mustard seed. It's always been about what the mustard seed could do. The potential inside the seed. Here was this tiny seed that when planted and watered and loved, not only became something great, but became something that would change everything around it. It would change the landscape, and provide food, rest, and shelter for the birds that came to it. Its greatness was in becoming all that it was created to be, and in doing so, influencing everything else that would come in contact with it. And so it is with you - it's not about how small you are, but how you have the God-given potential to be amazing! It's not about how this week is gonna throw you for a loop, or how you're going to cram 5 working days into three, or how you're going to handle working and having the kids' school schedules be off or how you're going to cook for 87 people on Thursday. Nope. It's about how YOU are gonna go in there, kick Monday's butt and take names! It's not about how bad everyone else's day is or how grumbly your coworkers/kids/loved ones are, but how you shine despite that. How you burst forth despite the dirt. In this piece, the three birds remind me that no matter how much it looks like it can't be done, there is always potential to do things greater than we can imagine, with God's help. Just like that mustard seed had the potential to be amazing? It's just a tree! How much more potential do you have, so lovingly created by your heavenly father to do amazingly awesome things. YOU can do it. We're cheering for you. #MondayMotivation XOXO, Karen SHINEblog Editor Karen is a mama, writer, editor, engineer, and chocoholic who loves anything sparkly.
